Introduction
The importance of morphology has recently been recognized as critical in the context of MT, IR, IE and such applications, especially for Indian Languages. Considering this, a one-day workshop on Morphology is planned at IIT Bombay on 31st March, 2005. The main aim of the workshop is sharing of experience and evolving solutions and future directions. The hope is to bring together researchers working on/interested in subtleties of morphology. An intensive interaction between theoreticians and practitioners is expected. The workshop will provide a comprehensive perspective to both linguists and computer scientists involved in the field of computational linguistics.
We invite extended abstracts on all topics related to the theme, including but not limited to:
- Role of morphology in scientific/humanistic study of language
- Salient issues regarding Indian Language Morphology
- Inflection and Derivation
- Terminology
- Lexicology and Morphology
- Morphology and Syntax
- Semantics and Morphology
- Morphology and its application to language technology
- Morphology for Web Technology
Extended Abstract
Potential participants should submit their extended abstracts (not exceeding 5 pages) in DOC/PDF formats, which emphasize their experiences in fundamentals and processing of morphology. The following should be included:
- Title of the abstract
- Name of author(s)
- Affiliation
- e-mail
- Telephone and fax number
- Postal address
Extended abstracts may be written in English or Hindi. They will be reviewed by an advisory/ scientific committee.
Selected papers will also be published in the journal, Language in India.

Workshop format
The event will include presentations and discussions. Papers should be delivered in English or Hindi.

- On-the-spot registration
- Registration fees: Rs. 400/- (by cash/cheque/DD favoring "Registrar, IIT Bombay")
Provisions
Only local hospitality will be provided to the participants. The workshop venue will have overhead and data projectors. It will help if the participants send their presentations a-priori.
