Eating places
Inside the campus
First floor, in the building near the Vanvihar guest house. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, Indian cuisine.
Staff Canteen
Near Main bilding. Tea, coffee, snacks, lunch and dinner. Chinese is available in the evening. Cheap but food quality is nothing to write home about. The only official place in the campus to get cigarettes.
Coffee shack
Nescafe runs this shack where one can get coffee (hot and cold), tea, iced tea, Maggi noodles and Maggi sandwitch. Near the conference venue.
Between swimming pool and Student Activity Centre (SAC). Juices and Milkshakes, snacks, vegetarian meals for lunch and dinner. Open air. Which means mosquitoes in the evening.

Outside the campus
Akarshan, Vikhroli On road which goes to Vikhroli station. About 2kms from Market Gate. One of the favoutire treat places for IIT students. Normal restaurant, Indian/Punjabi cuisine. Serves alcohol, and used to make good Bloody Marys. Generally crowded.
Chakra, Sakinaka junction
About 5kms from Main Gate. Another treat restaurant. Like Akarshan, but non-vegeratian food is better at Chakra. Slightly on the expensive side. Indian/Punjabi cuisine and serves alcohol.
Mailnland China, Sakinaka junction
About 5kms from Main Gate. The only place in the neighbourhood where one can find good Chinese cuisine. Moderately expensive.
Galleria, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai
Garry's menu, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai Great Punjab, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai About 2 kms from Main gate. Smaller compared to Akarshan or Chakra. No alcohol served. Food is not bad. Indian/Punjabi cuisine.
Maddu mess
Situated near market gate, this place is best known for its cheap but good dosas and idlis. Opens as early as 5 in the morning. Egg dosa is the speciality. Serves both veg and non-veg food. Not very hygienic surroundings, and place is congested.
Hiring a taxi within Mumbai: A taxi may be hired by calling IIT main gate (IIT internal # 1123); alternatively a taxi may be pre-arranged by contacting one of the following taxi-men: (These taxi-men are often hired by IITians)

Within IIT: The conference venue (IRCC Auditorium) is within walking distance from the guesthouses and hostels. For moving around within IIT, one may avail local transport service (popularly known as "Tum-Tum"); They run on predetermined routes and charge Rs. 3/- for going from any point to any other point on the route.

Canara Bank (near the guesthouse)
Working hrs: 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 11.30am on Saturday
Travelers cheques can be encashed (Passport necessary for identification)
State Bank of India (near the IIT main gate)

Post Office
A Post Office is situated at the Y - Point Gate (YP). Timing : 9 a. m. to 5 p. m.. (Postal Orders, Registration, etc upto 3 p. m. only).
IIT Market
There is a market at YP (or market Gate) both inside and outside the campus. Apart from this there is a Co-op (IIT Consumers CO-op. Society) in the MB (Main Building) for books and stationery. Books are also available at YP.
There is a hospital with full time doctors and visiting specialists, located near the convocation hall. The hospital has its own pathological labs, x - ray & ECG facilities and a physiotherapy section too. The OPD timings are 8 a. m. to 6 p. m.. The doctor on duty in the wards will see you at other times in cases of emergency. An ambulance is available on a telephone call (#5555).
Hill and Lakes
Places to cool yourself off after a hard day's work. It's about 20 minutes trek to reach the hilltop. Or one can opt for a walk along Powai lake which takes you to the Devi temple.
